One of the most effective ways to improve the performance and capability of your Off-Road vehicle is to adjust the tire pressure to suit the type of terrain you are driving in.

The above graphic shows the dramatic increase in contact area when a tire is deflated to lower pressures. This increase in contact area allows the vehicle to "float" easily over soft or sandy terrain. The increase in contact area also allows the tire to grip a much larger area on hard or rocky terrain, and allows the tires to conform to irregular surfaces. The result is a huge improvement in your vehicles capability.

Lower tire pressures also provide a much softer ride over rough or "washboard" surfaces.

Most vehicles can be safely driven with tire pressures much lower than street pressure. Always consider your vehicle's weight, type of tires, wheel and tire combination, terrain and driving style when determining the pressure that you will be deflating to.

Most importantly, always have a source of compressed air to re-inflate your tires back to street pressure before returning to the highway!
